William Cannon Drive corridor project
William Cannon Drive corridor project
Mobility, safety and connectivity improvements are coming to William Cannon Drive between Southwest Parkway and McKinney Falls Parkway. The improvements are funded by the 2016 Austin Mobility Bond.
Status: Under Construction
Jan. 6, 2026 Status Update: Starting Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2026, crews will shift an eastbound lane on William Cannon Drive east of Running Water from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
This temporary lane change is needed while crews install a new gate valve and fire hydrant. Waterline work will continue through the week of Jan. 12, 2026.
What to expect:
- Drivers should plan for extra travel time and use caution in the work zone.
- Work is scheduled during daytime hours to reduce rush hour impacts.
Why this matters: Installing the new valve and hydrant will improve water system reliability and enhance fire protection for the community.
