2024 Community Needs Assessment
2024 Community Needs Assessment
As part of a new 5-year plan to invest housing and community development dollars where they are needed most, the City of Austin Housing Department conducted a community needs assessment. The Five-Year Federal Funding Plan decides how to distribute approximately $14 million in annual grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The public services and programs from this grant address things like affordable housing, job creation, and public service needs for low- and moderate-income families, persons with disabilities, and seniors. Find out what we heard and how feedback was used here.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our 2024 Needs Assessment Survey. On this page, you'll find a recap of what we heard and the commitments the Housing Department makes to address community needs. This survey has closed, but in response to feedback, we've created an ongoing needs survey that you can submit at any time.
What We Heard
This first phase of the community engagement report reflects the community needs we heard throughout the initial community needs assessment. This input has informed the first draft of the funding strategy. A second phase of the report will be produced over the next few months as engagement continues. The phase 2 report will show not only how feedback is used within the finalized consolidated plan but will also include other efforts the Housing Department is making to address community needs.
The 2024 Community Needs Assessment included consultations with 57 community groups and organizations. The document linked below summarizes the feedback we heard in each meeting.
