The Downtown Traffic is a joke. There needs to be signs put up at each light to notify drivers not to block intersections, and traffic tickets written when they are not followed. It is ridiculous to take 30-40 minutes to travel from 10th Street to Caesar Chavez on Congress Avenue, just because drivers are blocking the intersections due to the congestion on Caesar Chavez. Some drivers do not realize that it IS AGAINST THE LAW to block an intersection due to congestion in their lane.

Completely agree. Most of the cross streets get blocked at rush hour along West 6th St. as well making North and South bound traffic very congested (West, Rio Grande, etc.) Some simple signage "Do Not Block Intersection" would be relatively inexpensive to install at these various locations downtown.

We agree that blocking intersections is a problem, so the City launched the Don't Block the Box initiative. The Austin Transportation Department is posting signage reminding drivers not to block the box at critical intersections around Austin. When a driver enters an intersection and is unable to travel all the way through, they prevent cross traffic movement, and endanger other travelers by blocking crosswalks and bike lanes. In other words, blocking the box is unsafe, illegal and causes traffic congestion.
