Basel, Switzerland and a number of other cities have a hospitality tax that is paid on any overnight stay at a hotel, motel, short term rental, etc. Each guest receives a pass that gives unlimited access to public transit options for the time of the stay. This increases ridership, promotes sustainable methods of getting around, keeps car off the roads (especially ones with people who don't know their way around), and it helps subsidize the public transit networks for those who live here full-time.

I would like the City of Austin to purchase land and build a road that connects Southwest Parkway and US Hwy 290W.

What I propose: - A new road extending from Southwest Parkway, directly east of Mission Oaks Blvd, joining up with Industrial Oaks Blvd at Hwy 290W service road that has an existing traffic light. - Put a street light in at Mission Oaks Blvd and Southwest Parkway. - Remove street light at Boston Lane and SW Pkwy and fill in median.
What this will achieve: - Makes a true connector from SW Pkwy to Loop 1 and Hwy 290 and visa - versa. - Eliminates the backup of SW Pkwy at the Best Buy interchange to Loop 1 and Hwy 290. - Relieves the existing congested traffic from Boston Lane in both directions. - Removes the danger that exists when exiting Industrial/Monterrey Oaks Blvd exit from Hwy 290W (while heading west) and crossing over to Boston Lane to get to Southwest Parkway. - Allows residence of Travis Country to be able to leave on foot or bike with access via Industrial Oaks Blvd / Monterrey Oaks Blvd to shopping, schools (Patton Elem and Small Middle), and Westcreek Fields. - Discourages heavy traffic through private parking lots (like Parkwood Complex)connecting Southwest Parkway and US Hwy 290W.
944.17 Sexual gratification. (1) In this section, “in public” means in a place where or in a manner such that the person knows or has reason to know that his or her conduct is observable by or in the presence of persons other than the person with whom he or she is having sexual gratification. (c) Commits an act of sexual gratification involving his or her sex organ and the sex organ, mouth or anus of an animal. Breast feeding in Public
Q: Does federal or state law protect a woman’s ability to breastfeeding in public?
A: Yes. Wisconsin law allows a mother to breastfeed her child in any public or private location where the mother and child are otherwise allowed.36 Further, no person may prohibit a mother from breastfeeding her child, direct her to move to a different location to breastfeed her child, direct her to cover her child or breast while breast-feeding, or otherwise restrict a mother from breastfeeding.37 This means women are allowed to breastfeed in restaurants, stores, parks, malls, and other public locations. Breastfeeding in public is not a violation of Wisconsin’s sexual gratification, indecent exposure, or obscenity laws.38
Q: Are there local ordinances that protect a woman’s ability to breastfeed in public?
A: Madison and Dane County both have local ordinances that permit a woman to breastfeed in public, and Madison’s breastfeeding ordinance provides additional protections.39 Madison’s ordinance protects the “expression” of breast milk in any public or private location where a woman (mother or surrogate) is otherwise permitted.40 Expressing breast milk includes pumping as well as breastfeeding. The one exception to a woman’s ability to express breast milk under Madison’s ordinance is that the owner of a private residence may prohibit a woman from breastfeeding or pumping within that private residence.41

The campaign to provide formula to children began as part of a social movement to liberate women from household responsibilities and to give them the opportunity to maintain their place within the workforce, even after the birth of a child. Since its inception, however, the movement away from breastfeeding has also allowed a redefinition of the use of the breast from an object for feeding a baby to an object of sexual stimulation. Some authors argue that this sexual objectification of the breast has inhibited women from breastfeeding. Whatever the case, current attitudes toward the breast and its exposure in the public arena have definitely colored the issues surrounding breastfeeding’ especially within an employment context. As a result, the social norms regarding breastfeeding have been severely altered since the introduction of formula. We would've passed comprehensive light rail in 2000 had it been a municipal vote rather than countywide, and that's probably not going to change -- why would the rest of Travis County pay for us to have light rail? Perhaps we can reorganize CapMetro to be municipal rather than countywide so that we can finally pass light rail as a city without the rest of the county voting it down.
I understand transparency and the need to tell the average voter what their taxes are being spent on. What I don't understand is giving the media every bit of information available - when that could endanger our city personnel. Case in point: New ballistics vests for APD. Nuff said, no justification is necessary. But no, not enough! Anyone that brings a rifle to the party is not acting on impulse, and they believe they can use that greater accuracy and power to further whatever fanatical ideology is driving them. In short, they are thinking and planning. And we just told these people where not to aim. I pray this does not come back to haunt us.
I urge the city of Austin to condemn the president's executive order to put a hold on immigration from seven Middle Eastern countries. Our economy depends on innovation, much of which is generated by foreign-born engineers and business people. I have worked in various high tech companies, with a high proportion of people from the targeted countries. I can say without a doubt that product developement would go much slower without their contributions.
Can we get no left turns on westbound 3rd from Trinity to Guadalupe? Traffic is blocked by the lead car trying to make a left and if lucky only 1 car gets through per green. The bike lane curb traps all traffic behind the lead car.
Reprogram pedestrian walk signal, so that all pedestrians are walking at the same time. Not when vehicles are given the green light to turn, but cannot because vehicles have to yield to pedestrians. Then the green arrow changes and maybe one vehicle made a successful turn. This will greatly improve the traffic conditions downtown and campus area.
